Bath Break: Laline Review

A high-quality bath and beauty company, born from Israeli cousins, with a major presence in Japan as well as flagship locations in my beloved San Francisco? Meet Laline.

Laline body scrub

I stumbled across the Laline shop while shopping in Osaka- the fresh-white store front lured me in— so many JP beauty shops are pop star pink explosions, the simple-but-feminine vibe struck the right shopping chord. Anyway… onto the good stuff. Here’s what I got:

Laline Sugar Scrub

Coconut Verbena Body Scrub: An exfoliating peel for your body, this stuff scrubs like any DIY or drugstore body scrub, but the oils make your skin feel like new. I’m a tough customer when it comes to scrubs– you can make your own for pennies, so if I’m going to throw down 2000 yen, it better do wonders. Laline’s delivers- I used it that night in the shower and my skin felt like I had gotten a spa scrub. Plus the cocont-verbena combo is so lovely and balanced… you don’t smell like suntan lotion or a lemon drop—more of a soft mix of sweet citrus. DOUBLE LOVE. It’s around 2500 yen, but it’s a good sized tub that I’ll use it weekly. I feel like I’m going to need it when the cold weather breaks here.

Laline Sugar Scrub

Kinda looks like lime shave ice 🙂

Key Ingredients:

  • Dead sea salt
  • Grape seed oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Vitamin E

Laline Better Butter Cream

Coconut Verbena Better Butter Cream: This was actually what I was looking for—I ran out of my Too Cool For School Rules of Body, so I thought I’d go back to a body butter. One of my all-time favorites is the Olive Oil Butter by The Body Shop, but since I was already seduced by the new scrub, so I decided to match it up.

It has the usual shea-cocoa butter combo, but one thing I do like in Laline’s over the Body Shop’s it’s density and how it absorbs. The consistency is lighter, so there’s no greasy-shiny-I need to wash half this off feeling. I want to say it’s lightly whipped? I might grab a small tub of the Body Shop’s and do a side-by-side comparison. Maybe I’m being crazy…

Laline Hand Cream

Anyway—these rock and are worth the ching. The shop girl also gave me some lovely travel sized samples (which is awesome since I’m going back to America for the holidays to see my people!). Body soap and hand cream in Ocean (but I swear the scent is more like a linen… very clean floral notes).

Laline's Ten Tips

Laline’s Ten Tips… 🙂

From a consumer perspective I’m impressed by this company– cruising their website, I learned Laline is committed to all-natural and cruelty-free ingredients. And their branding is natural without being granola, and feminine without being prissy. Great products at fair price points– a lot of good gift ideas too.

Lotions, serums, cleansers, organic night creams: from a beauty junkie perspective, Laline has a full line of skin love I’m hoping to check out. Learn more about their US shops here, and their JP shops here. And if you’ve tried any of the facial goodies… please shoot me a review!
