You can get recommendations for shooters from agencies before they decide to take you on or not. Most are happy to help you!

Hi Katrina. Thanks for the kinds words!! Being an agent here requires a lot of skills I don’t have (fluency in Japanese, masterful negotiation skills, huge production network). I think I’m better off working as an actor and helping aspiring talent.

Hi Cynthia,
I’ve messaged you before on Facebook. Thanks for the advice! I’m now in the Tokyo area and was looking online for head shot photographers when I came across this site. I haven’t contacted any agencies yet since I have nothing to show. Is there any good places or sites to get in contact with photographers here? I saw that you already mentioned contacting the agencies for referrals but I’m still in search of agencies as well. I will at least register with Model Mayhem for the time being.

I share similar attitude in my work. I know it’s a very different field, but I don’t take on board to do advertising or design for a company/brand/product I don’t like.
If it’s against my personal views or I know I’m just not getting on with the person dealing on for the marketing, there is no point wasting their and my time. I can’t create a great design and marketing product for something I don’t approve myself or for person that we’re fighting with all the time.
Simple as that! To be good in what you do, you need to choose what you work on.
